North Johnstone River

Hi all,

Not such a great day yesterday on the North Johnstone river.

Only a couple of small barra and 2 flathead. A sure sign that "winter" is upon us - the water was down to a cool 22.7. Last Sunday on the Daintree the water was over 2 degrees warmer.

It was still a lovely day but we pulled the pin early to go home and watch the footy.

Regards, Les

Fishing Cairns

Hi all,

Debbie & I had a wonderful day on the Daintree yesterday.

Weather was fantastic (although the wind did pick up to about 20 knots mid morning), clear blue skies and the water temps was about 24 - 25 C. Still warm enough for barra.

The only problem was that Debbie "kicked my ass"...........she had landed 5 fish before I had a score on the board. You see, in my kind, considerate, helpful way, I ALLOWED Debbie to use that bright shiny new Leads highjacker lure - I should have known better.

Check it out, its green - its bright - its shiny - and it works!

And before all you guys say that it's just "sour grapes" - your darn right it is. Hell I know barra and how to catch them. You could say that I was a very good guide and put Debbie onto the fish but that would be stretching the truth too much.

It was just one of those days where
- she had most of the luck,
- she was up the front of the boat,
- I let her have first cast (most of the time)
- and she was using MY recently acquired favourite lure

I had to chastise myself very severely during our belated lunch break (pull your finger out Les or suffer the consequences) and after that I managed to land 3 small barra, but the damage to my pride had already been done.

WELL DONE GIRL!

Kind regards, Les
